If you have landed on this page, then you must be wondering why on-page SEO is so important.

In this blog you find out what on-page SEO is, why it matters, and some of the most important on-page SEO tips & tricks you will need in order to succeed.

Getting on the first page of Google in 2020 requires a combination of different factors, on-page and off-page. In recent years we have seen an increase in the amount of focus on off-page SEO techniques such as link building. However, when it comes to ranking on Google, off-page SEO is worthless if you have not done enough on-page SEO fundamentals.

On-page SEO is something you should consistently be doing if you are trying to improve your SERP ranking. On-page SEO is not a one time job as you will need to continuously add to, and update, your page since search engines prioritise new and up to date information. You may have an extremely useful web page from 2018, but if there are newer pages in 2020, they are more likely to rank higher.

Using on-page SEO services can be a key advantage against other businesses in your industry. As traditional companies rely on old marketing tactics such as word of mouth, newspaper adverts, TV adverts (expensive), radio adverts, or posters. You can use on-page SEO techniques to reach the audience of modern times in an extremely efficient and cost-effective way.

SEO is a long-term investment (we always recommend at least 6 months for our packages), making on-page SEO a core function of your SEO practices and digital marketing strategy is best practice. Search engine algorithms always change (600 times a year), customer demands change, your business changes. SEO allows you to keep up with these changes so that your business can move up the rankings.

On-page seo

The most important on-page SEO factor is the content; content is king. The second is the title tag, then closely followed in third by the URL.

The URL should follow this structure:

https://www.kopamarketing.com/services/seo

This URL clearly shows the hierarchy of the information on the page. This information is used to determine how relevant a web page is. The ‘services’ in the URL tells the search engine that we are specifically speaking about our services and the ‘seo’ part is a keyword that speaks for itself.

When creating a web page, you should take the following into consideration:

  • Write a web page on a specific topic
  • Include the subject in the title tag
  • Include the subject in the URL
  • Include the subject in the image alt text
  • Specify the subject several times throughout the text (we recommend mentioning the specific keyword 20 times on one page)
  • Provide unique content about the given subject (the more unique the better)
  • Link back to different pages on your website
  • Link to at least 5 reputable external websites

Off-Page SEO

You may also have heard of off-page SEO whilst researching on-page SEO. It is easy to think that off-page Search Engine Optimisation is just about having plenty of backlinks. Backlinks are when other websites link to your web page, in simple terms it gives search engines confidence that you are providing great content. People would not be linking to your website if it was rubbish!

Google looks at many off-page factors when deciding if and where to rank web pages. Backlinks are one thing, but there are many other factors. Because of that, it is difficult for search engines to rank your page based solely on the content. Other ways of gaining great off-page SEO include having others write a blog about your website. This will give search engines confidence that your content is relevant to the search.

We will discuss more off-page SEO techniques in another blog post soon!
